@dat_ecosystem not sure if you are aware but "frens" is read by many as an alt right thing at this point in history.
@liaizon @dat_ecosystem i was not aware of this, it is upsetting and will definitely try to look it up. but may i ask why dont people try to reclaim the word from them? why give them it?
@fleeky @liaizon @dat_ecosystem
As a linguist I have to say how I personally fight this. I know that many words can have different conotations for different people. But I also know that words are encoded by sender and decoded by a receiver. So, if sender and receiver understand their coding, there is no fear certain word can be taken over. So, watch who is a coding and then decode appropriately.
@ninabreznik @fleeky @dat_ecosystem yall can dig into this all you want. Thats not gonna stop people from seeing a certain word and making associations with the person or account thats using it. Words hold all the contexts they are used in. If the receiver understands that a word can have different meanings and the sender is not aware of those meanings that doesnt make it not cone thru
@liaizon @fleeky @dat_ecosystem yeah, luckily there is always more connotations to almost every word so hopefully people don't focus only on this one and also understand the context, tlwho the sender is etc. Otherwise if we give up words, we might end up silenced and not able to communicate anymore
