Did you know that @purism is working towards a new release for the #Librem5 #FOSS phone?
The name of this new version is #Crimson. Crimson will be the next version of the PureOS #Linux distribution for the Librem 5.
#Purism only earns once money on their sell of a #phone, because Purism is not selling your data.
Since July 2024 you can take an optional subscription to advance the #PureOS development.
Since then there has been a monthly report on the progress.

Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (09, 10/2025): Too much to put in a title
Erf, I upgraded my #mobian #librem5 and it break the mobile-config-firefox
https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/mobile-config-firefox
I dig a little and seems to be an issue with FileUtils
(cc @LWN)
For those interested, I’ve pushed the firmware that implements the necessary alt-mode dance to get UART out of the #Librem5's USB-C port to #Debubo’s repository.
It wasn’t pushed before because it was very crude and I wanted to clean it up before pushing. It still is, but I decided to actually get it out regardless rather than risk having it sit and wait for even more months
Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (08/2025): Cameras and Project Updates
Woohoo, #libobscura returned an image from the #librem5 !
```
Buffer size: 823296, seq: 0, timestamp: 18178.362439 [s]
Writing to frame.GRBG
```
Now I'm scared to look at the data. It's probably garbage.
But the proof of concept is there: you can treat the Media Controller API as a database and query it for valid image pipeline configurations.
I wonder if the debayering #shader still works.
But first, clean up and publish.
@licho However, if what you're after is experimenting with cellular tech, then why wait? You can do it today. Get a #Librem5 and replace its modem M.2 card with something like uSDR: https://www.crowdsupply.com/wavelet-lab/usdr
Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (07/2025): Reviews and Improvements
77 commits later, and #libobscura has a scripting system good enough to initialize a #USB #Camera
So it's back to the same functionality, except with extra complexity, lol.
Next up: organize the commits (don't leave a mess if you want contributors) and make sure #librem5 works the same way.
@Liberux great project, i hope you succeed! one question though: why an own OS? can't you use e.g. #postmarketos or another existing linux-os and spare the time&effort for developing an OS (or put the ressource into hardware-development)? that would be my lesson learned from #librem5, where the OS ist totally outdated, because the company ran out of money.
