just heard about the mystery of #SwitchingSocial’s disappearance! what happened?! I interacted with them here a few days ago and everything seemed normal
@liaizon Did some digging around on twitter and it looks like the creator has ragequit. It looks like they were in an argument with some people over the Brave web browser though all their tweets are gone so I can’t find their side of the conversation. The username “@SwitchingSocial” now points to an account called “@NowGoneAway” which is locked.
The site has mostly been saved on the Wayback and there are translated mirrors but the English version seems to be gone for now.
@liaizon Here is the last tweet that Twitter search will deign to reveal with a mention in the conversation, around 2 days ago.

@drisc thanks for that research. so strange their project was going so well! they were like the go to source for such questions.
@liaizon Indeed, whenever I wanted to know if there was an alternative to something they were the first place I’d check.
I hope that they either find the energy to continue or that someone else picks it up.
@liaizon No one knows. But after checking with the admin of the Mastodon instance they were running around: It seems like they did this themselves.
Disappeared from Mastodon, Twitter, their website, iirc also github(?).
So switching.social account is not hacked
Yep, there is no indication that the account was hacked. The theory that the account got hacked is getting less and less likely since there is also no one who claimed to be the previous owner of the website. So all in all, we might never know why, but the person who worked on switching.social disappeared from the internet in this function and doesn't seem to plan a come back.
/cc @liaizon
Sad to hear that.
Whatever hardship the original author faced, we could've give hand to him.
No Whois info on domain name too ?
