while biking in the rain imagined how cool it would be to be using some type of virtual reality machine to see the perspective of someone living in the 1950s with the level of high resolution clarity that I was experiencing while biking, then imagined that I was already doing this but for someone living in 2020, and thought wow this is so cool there is so much clarity this is very high definition thats amazing and laughed out loud

I am in a private signal group for a gardening collective and someone wanted to vote on an idea. I thought this was sorta neat. hadn’t seen anyone do this in a chat before.

I don't recommend smashing your finger in a sliding door lock... zero stars

I tried to write about new #misskey changes. I hope I can keep doing it and will not give up. Collecting everything and translate them.... it was around 45 minutes which kinda long for a small post like this. On the other hand, I don't know anything in English about Misskey changes or anything recent with Misskey at all.

"Fediverse of Things" sounds like it could be disingenuous, but I'm sincere. Plenty of today's microprocessors are packing more power and storage than Tim Berner-Lee's 80486 at Cern that ran the first web server. Running ActivityPub on self-forming mesh and other ad hoc networks would be a great way to structure local information exchange

When my daughter plays Overwatch, she's matched with players from all over North America on a centralized server, with all the network latency and power usage that implies. My use case for a FoT would be surfing local Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRaWAN and other protocols for gaming and other social match ups

it's not really that i think all cops (or all troops or all landlords or all nazis) 'deserve' to die but rather that as long as they are willing agents of institutionalised violence, deserving or not deserving doesn't enter into it. the immediate need for self-defence reduces it to a purely tactical decision. resign; then we can talk morality. until then we're suspending the ethical

@felix @LemmyDev We're Portland Oregon based; several admins on our team. I'm just one of the more busy ones ;-) We are especially aimed at the PNW but are open to the world.

Our Matrix server that we launched a few weeks ago has several hundred users and maybe 20 public & active channels. We've been growing it by passing out leaflets at actions. Aside from our Matrix and Pleroma servers, we also have a Jitsi Meet server.

We hope to provide decentralized services to prove that they are viable and better than commercial services, and to also provide community education in regards to opsec, using FLOSS, and (hopefully, eventually) train people to set up their own nodes and services.

Another longshot goal is to begin inhouse local development for leftist causes.

Lemmy was really easy to set up. Now the hard part is encouraging people to try it! lol.
