Thanks to an inquiry posed by @wendy yesterday, I discovered two amazing projects to map community events from aroubd the on an @openstreetmap base.

«𝖛𝖔𝔦𝔡 balotta» by @grafton9 shows venues listed on balotta.org, an Italian @gancio server.
🗺️ autistici.org/void/balotta

«vous revoir» by @simon shows events listed across both @mobilizon and servers.
🗺️ vousrevoir.be

@liaizon Oh these look great! I wonder if either is something I could run another instance of for my local community

I'm running an experiment analyzing the distribution of events in Bologna since 2022 using data from the Gancio instance at balotta.org.
All code is available at git.lattuga.net/void/gancio.da
For this analysis, I've used DuckDB to load events from the API - which I must say is impressively straightforward and user-friendly (exactly how APIs should be!).
Geocoding is done with Google maps API because I already had code, but hell no, better use OSM Nominatim.

Might be interesting if Gancio would do a bulk export of all events, in Parquet format.

This is great. Iv been thinking on the usefulness of a fediverse app that allows users to plot protests, marches, barricades, law enforcement movments, deportation raids, etc in real-time on a OSM. Mainly inspired by an old project called tapatio, users are assigned a credibility rating depending on the reliability of their posts and also possibly with known and vetted folks that are doing recon on the ground or monitoring live feeds and police scanners. All of this depending on the mods of each insance.
It can be used on real time for protests / cop movements or posting future events / workshops / work parties. My coding skills are basic if anything but i think its worthwhile. I have a bit of experts ith Python and django so i thought id try a web app with that to start.

@liaizon not only belgium, I'm gathering events from all the bigest mobilizon instances, and since yesterday from @gancio as well 😊

@simon oh wow thats amazing! how are you pulling in events from Gancio? Since each instance is sort of its own self contained actor

@liaizon simply with a quick script on domain.tld/api/events/ but maybe not all of them? I'm not sure...

@simon how are you getting the list of gancio instances to query?

@simon ah wonderful I hadn't actually seen their instance list there.

@wendy oh woaw, VousRevoir is extremely useful. I wasn't aware there were so many fedevents in my city. @vvvvvilay @liaizon @openstreetmap @grafton9 @gancio @simon @mobilizon

Oh thank you @woozong for the cetch I deleted it to save space in my post since its usually not needed. Cc @simon maybe want to add a redirect since this is a pretty common procedure to not include the www
